Riviera Maya travelers will certainly want to set aside plenty of beach time, but the destination is a wonderful place to explore ancient Mayan pyramids and ruins at antiquity sites in Tulum and Coba, where travelers can marvel at soaring stone structures dating back more than 1,500 years. Visitors can book guided outings with Coba Sunset Tours to both of those Mayan sites as well as a chance to swim in the region's stunning cenotes -- crystal clear fresh water pools found in the Riviera Maya's limestone caves.

Stayed
First opened summer of 2021, the beachfront Nickelodeon Hotel & Resort Riviera Maya is, of course, a wonderful option for families, featuring a six-acre Aqua Nick water park, themed suites and a terrific selection of restaurants loaded with kid-friendly options. But the all-inclusive resort may also be a good fit for young-at-heart fans of the cast of Nickelodeon characters who feature so prominently throughout the property, including routine appearances by SpongeBob Squarepants and his good buddy, Patrick Star.

Nibbled
Riviera Maya visitors in search of terrific street tacos should stop by Carnitas Estilo Puebla in Puerto Aventuras. The humble little open-air restaurant may not be fancy, but the tacos are terrific. And the friendly sit-down venue offers a genuine feel travelers aren't likely to get dining at their resort. Folks out exploring the Mayan pyramids at Coba should also make time to sample some traditional Yucatan regional cuisine at Restaurant Ki Hanal, located just across the parking lot from the antiquity site's entrance.
